Record Keeping

Every state handles homeschool record keeping differently. It is essential that every homeschool family is aware of the legal responsibilities they face when they decide to educate at home. Those regulations can be found at your State Department of Education’s website, and you need to become familiar with those regulations if you plan to homeschool long term.

MHEC can assist homeschool families with record keeping systems that satisfy state and local requirements. Experience tells us that record keeping should be systematic and ongoing throughout the academic year. Whether you are preparing a portfolio or preparing for a state-recognized standardized assessment, it is essential that you have an established plan for maintaining accurate records, especially if your state requires annual reporting of lesson plans and instructional time.
