Every school in every community in our nation is unique. Each has its own culture, traditions, and challenges. Each has its own history as well as its own future. Successfully transitioning from the past to the future can be quite tricky, however.

Mark Twain once said, “It's not what you don't know that kills you, it's what you know for sure that ain't true.” For those of us who have been involved in public education for a while, we grow accustomed to doing things a certain way, but times change. So should we. How can we know what is going on in our community? Have our values or beliefs changed over time? Are the family structures in our community changing? How should we best meet the needs of our stakeholders? Lots of questions, very few answers.
